Have you read To Kill a Mockingbird or The Great Gatsby? Can you believe that these books and hundreds of others are frequently challenged and banned?Banned Books Week (BBW) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment. Held during the last week of September, Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship by spotlighting actual or attempted bannings of books across the United States.
Here is a listing of the most frequently banned books of the 21st Century.
Come to the library on Monday, September 26, @ 6:30PM to celebrate National Banned Books Week which runs from September 24th through October 1st. We will be having a Read-Out program where anyone can read a five-minute portion from the banned book of his or her choice. Anyone wishing to read should sign up at the Reference Desk.
